Salary:
Band 5 £20.396 - £21,222
Under HSE’s current pay arrangements, subject to an effective level of performance, staff progress annually towards the maximum of their pay scale. Salary will be dependent on experience.

Background

CRD’s Registration Branch (based in York) is responsible for the project management of pesticide applications for new active substances and existing active substance reviews through the UK Committee procedure and European Regulatory process. The Branch is also responsible for product applications submitted under the Control of Pesticides Regulations (COPR) 1986 and Plant Protection Products Regulations (PPPR) 2005. This work includes any new product approvals or changes to existing product approvals, experimental approvals for products or uses under development, official ‘Listing’ of adjuvants and specific off label approvals. There is liaison with colleagues from other Branches in CRD, technical and registration personnel from industry, representatives from other Government Departments and other EU member states. A full programme of training is available. If, and when the post holder is able to demonstrate the competencies necessary to work independently on scientific evaluations, promotion to Band 4 may be considered.

About the role

You will be responsible for project managing multiple applications for the approval of new or existing pesticide products. This will involve commissioning specialist evaluations from CRD’s Human Health and Environment Branches who are responsible for evaluating data relating to mammalian toxicology; operator exposure; formulation chemistry; residues; ecotoxicology; environmental fate and behaviour and efficacy. You will have responsibility for bringing together specialist inputs, producing assessment reports and approvals documentation to deadline.

Key responsibilities

  • To project manage the evaluation of applications for approval and prepare the approval documentation.
  • To provide regulatory advice and guidance to policy colleagues, applicants, stakeholders and the public.
  • To assist in the preparation of national and international guidance documents.
  • There are opportunities to train regulatory colleagues in other Member States and countries around the world.

Person requirements

Job related expertise:

A good degree or equivalent in biology, chemistry or other relevant life sciences.

  • Work collaboratively and flexibly, and make sound decisions and judgements.

Desirable requirements:

  • Knowledge of agricultural or horticultural practice, or previous regulatory experience would be an advantage although full training will be provided.
