UNICEF, the world’s leading organization working for the rights of children, seeks an Accounting Manager for our Supply Division, based in Copenhagen, Denmark. The successful applicant will, under the general supervision of the Chief, Finance and Administration, be responsible for financial management and accounting of Procurement Services trust funds in accordance with UNICEF Financial Regulations and Rules and International Public Sector Accounting Standards (IPSAS). In 2008 UNICEF Procurement Services was provided to 106 governments and valued $699 million. The Accounting Manager is responsible for a unit of 6 staff.

The duties include:

1. Overseeing the financial management and accounting of Procurement Services trust funds in Supply Division and ensuring compliance with all financial requirements of Procurement Services agreements, including non-standard contracts and agreements.

2. Reviewing and approving all financial statements and reports to internal and external stakeholders and partners. Confirming correct and timely recording of all financial transactions relating to Supply Division’s operations.

3. Developing regular management information reports and providing technical advice to Senior Management in all aspects of the financial management and accounting of Procurement Services trust funds in Supply Division.

4. Developing and monitoring performance indicators of Procurement Services work processes to identify weaknesses and recommend improvements.

5. Developing and managing proactive risk control measures for the financial management of Procurement Services trust funds. Drafting responses to internal and external auditors for Procurement Services financial subjects and ensuring corrective actions are implemented.

6. Supervising the Procurement Services Accounting Unit including establishing work plans and setting priorities, monitoring performance, providing timely guidance and encouraging continuous development of skills and competencies to support to staff.

Qualifications and Competencies:
  • Advanced University degree in Business Administration with concentration in accounting or equivalent professional qualification.
  • Minimum 8 (eight) years of relevant and progressive work experience at the national and international levels especially in the areas of financial management, budget preparation, accounting and/or audit.
  • Extensive work experience in a computerized accounting environment.
  • Proven ability to conceptualise, innovate, plan, and execute ideas as well as transfer of knowledge and skills.
  • Proven problem solver with ability to resolve complex situations where no established rules and regulations apply.
  • Ability to express clearly and concisely ideas and concepts in written and oral form.
  • Possesses strong analytical mind and thorough attention to details.
  • Well-organised, proven skills in supervision of human resources and ability to establish harmonious working relations in an international and multi -cultural environment.
  • Good customer service skills, interpersonal skills, and communication skills.
  • Computer skills, including internet navigation, and various office applications. e.g. Microsoft Office and SAP.
  • Fluency in English and proficiency in another UN working language desirable.

The contract duration is for one year and contract renewals will be subject to availability of funding.
